Scott’s 2nd SJHL Defenseman of the Week Award

Written by: Rory McGouran

What a week it was for Humboldt Broncos defenseman, Doug Scott.

Scott has been named the SJHL’s Defenseman of the Week for February 17th – 23rd. This is the second week since joining the team in December that Scott has won the award.

It’s not really a surprise the award was given to the North Vancouver, BC native. He exploded for 4 goals and 1 assist on Monday, February 17th against the Kindersley Klippers, a game that probably could have won him the weekly honour alone. However, on Wednesday, February 19th, he added three more helpers in an 8-0 win over the Melville Millionaires to finish with 8 points in 2 games played.

Scott was acquired by the Broncos in early December from the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL. He currently has 23 pts (8g, 15p) in 24 games played since arriving in Humboldt.

His clear, offensively gifted game has propelled him to the league’s highest PTS/game among defensemen (.96). If Scott were to have played a full 58 game season, he would lead all D-men in goals (19), PTS (55), and power play PTS (36).

The Humboldt Broncos have clinched a playoff spot, and Scott will need to be a major focus for opposing teams to neutralize on the back end. If left unmarked, the puck often seems to find its way into the back of the net.
