The Humboldt Broncos had two players take home a weekly award this week.

Karter McNarland has been named the Rookie of the Week for February 17th – 23rd. This is the second time McNarland has received the award this season. McNarland joins Doug Scott, who was named the SJHL’s Defenseman of the Week.

McNarland, who just celebrated his 17th birthday on February 10th, accumulated six points in two games this week. He picked up three assists in a 6-3 win over the Kindersley Klippers on Monday, February 17th. McNarland then followed that up with three more helpers in an 8-0 win over the Melville Millionaires on Wednesday, February 19th.

The back to back three-point nights brought his point total to 48 pts (10g, 38a) in 55 games played. He currently sits 2nd in points, 1st in assists, and 2nd in powerplay points, among all rookies in the SJHL.

McNarland has put together the highest single-season point total by a 16-year-old over the past decade, surpassing Mckenzie Welke of the Yorkton Terriers, who put up 42 points in 2015/16.

This is the 10th time a Humboldt Bronco has won a weekly award, which is the third-most in the SJHL, trailing only Flin Flon (14) and La Ronge (13).
