The Humboldt Broncos undefeated streak to start the season comes to an end at eight.
In the ninth game of the season the Broncos were back on home ice for the first time since September 24th as they welcomed the La Ronge Ice Wolves for already the fourth meeting of the season between the two clubs.
Although the Broncos never trailed for the first 58 minutes of the game, a late comeback bid by the Wolves ended the winning streak in a 3-2 defeat.
Both Bronco’s goals bookended the second period.
Ethan Zielke scored his seventh of the season just 36 seconds in. Jacob Boucher, who was playing his first game with the Broncos, scored his first goal of the season with 1:10 remaining. Trenton Curtis scored in between the pair of Bronco markers for a 2-1 Bronco lead heading into the third.
The Broncos held on to the 2-1 lead until 1:20 second left in the third period, when Ethan Strik tipped in a point shot to tie the game at 2-2.
With time winding down, the game appeared to be heading to overtime. However, a lack of concentration in the final minutes led to Dylan Handel banging home the game winner with just 39 seconds left.
The Broncos will look to get back in the win column on October 13th when they travel to Nipawin to take on the Hawks.
