The Broncos moved to within a point of Notre Dame in their division with a 4-3 win Sunday over the Hounds.
Humboldt has three straight victories improving to 23-14-3-2 on the season. Kaleb Dahlgren scored his fourth goal of the year against his former team in the win. Dahlgren, 20, said the team’s four point weekend was crucial, especially over a division foe.
“It was an awesome weekend; it’s huge for the standings because it’s super close right now going into the playoffs. We need all the points we can get,” he said.
The Broncos took the lead in the first period; Logan Hunter scored his 14th and 15th goals in the opening period. Notre Dame’s Jared Hamm answered for the Hounds in between Hunter’s markers. Dahlgren picked up his eighth of the season at the 11:24 mark of the second period making it 3-1. Olivier Lantagne cut the lead to one under two minutes later. Graysen Cameron restored the Broncos’ two goal lead with his fourth of the campaign under four minutes into the final period. Tim Gould replied for the Hounds with 18 seconds to play to cap the scoring. Dahlgren said he enjoys playing against Notre Dame which has helped his success.
“I just up for these games; it’s always fun to play your former teammates. I know their tendencies too which helps,” he said.
Logan Schatz had two assists, Parker Tobin made 28 saves in his fifth victory for the Broncos.
Humboldt travels to Kindersley Wednesday then will host LaRonge and Flin Flon on the weekend. All three of those teams sit below the Broncos in the standings. Dahlgren said they can’t take these games lightly.
“We can get on a run here; we have to win these games. If we let these games get away it will make it harder down the road,” he said.
