What looked like a hard-earned victory slipped away late, as the Humboldt Broncos dropped a 3–2 decision to the Kindersley Klippers on Tuesday night.
For the third straight game, the Broncos saw a late third-period lead slip away. After riding a seven-game winning streak, Humboldt has now gone 0-2-0-1 over its last three outings.
All three Klippers goals came on the power play.
Kindersley opened the scoring in the first period on a goal from Pryce Thiessen. In the second, the Broncos pushed back. Jacob Strizzi extended his point streak to 18 games with his 18th goal of the season, and the green and gold took the lead shortly after when Jeter Korte scored his fourth goal in his last five games.
However, two late penalties proved costly for the Broncos. With under three minutes remaining, Brock Evans tied the game for Kindersley. Then, with 20 seconds left, Brayden Skogstad sent a rolling puck out of play, resulting in a delay-of-game penalty. The Klippers capitalized again: with just six seconds on the clock, a point shot from Jaxon Herchak found the back of the net to seal the one-goal victory.
Charlie Tritt stopped 34 shots for Humboldt, while Kindersley’s Mattias Radke had 49 saves.
The Broncos’ top line delivered once again—Strizzi (1G, 1A), Korte (1G, 1A), and Connor Miller (2A) each finished with two points. Humboldt went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Klippers converted on three of their four opportunities.
With the loss, the Broncos fall four points back of the Klippers but still hold three games in hand.
Humboldt returns to action Friday when they travel to Battlefords to face the North Stars.
