The SJHL’s leading goal scorer has found his post secondary home in NCAA Division I.
The Humboldt Broncos are proud to announce that 20-year-old forward, Spencer Bell has committed to St. Lawrence University and will become a member of the Saints in 2024/25.
“We’re extremely proud of Spencer. He has earned this opportunity through and through. He is one of the hardest working players I’ve had in my time both on and off the ice,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney.
Bell has dominated the SJHL in his final season of Jr. A hockey. Scoring at will, Bell has 40 goals on the year in just 49 games played, leading all SJHL players, while his 75 points are second in the league.
“He’s been the most consistent Bronco, game in and game out this season. His skating has popped this year which is due to the immense amount of work he puts in. His shot is elite, and his net front presence and knack for finding the back of the net is second to none. In my opinion he was the most deserving SJHL’er to secure an NCAA Division I Commitment that didn’t already have one, and now were very happy for him that he does.” Barney added.
The growth of Bell’s game may also be second to none in the SJHL. Bell was acquired by the Broncos midway through last season and picked up 16 points in 26 games throughout the remainder of the year as a 19-year-old.
Along with leading the Broncos this season with 75 points, the Warman, SK native contributes in all three zones, plays both powerplay and penalty kill, and is largely utilized in the majority of key defensive-zone draws and responsibilities.
St Lawrence University is located in Canton, NY and competes in the ECAC division.
The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt would like to congratulate Spencer and his family on his incredible accomplishment with the commitment to NCAA Division I’s St. Lawrence University.
