The Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club is pleased to announce forward Jarrett Penner (’00) has committed to Trinity Western University (USPORTS) for the 2021/22 season.
Penner, 20, joined the Broncos in late October in time for the regular season after being acquired from the West Kelowna Warriors in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCHL). Penner posted 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points in 115 games and 173 penalty minutes over his first two seasons in the SJHL with the Notre Dame Hounds. This season, he has posted another 7 points in 6 games with the Broncos. The 6’3”, 195-pound forward has been a key pickup for the Broncos, playing centre or wing, and playing in all game situations. Jarrett will bring a lot of value and versatility to the Spartans next season and beyond.
“I am super happy to commit to Trinity Western, they are a well-respected school and have a great hockey program,” commented the newest Spartan commit in Penner, “I’m really excited to do whatever I can to help them succeed in their first year in Canada West. Thanks to the Broncos for bringing me in this year I wouldn’t have been able to do this without them.”
Trinity Western University is located in Langley, BC, the Men’s USPORTS hockey program was to be going into its inaugural season this year before the whole league was shut down due to COVID-19. Next season, the Spartans will be playing out of the Canada West Conference. Prior to becoming a USPORT program, the Spartans were in the BCIHL. The team is coached by Barret Kropf, who has been behind the bench since the 2013 season.
