It was the 4th meeting between the Nipawin Hawks and the Humboldt Broncos, and the last of the regular season inside the Centennial Arena in Nipawin.

The Broncos travelled into Nipawin on Friday, November 29th with a 2-1 season series lead over the Hawks.

In the first period, the Broncos scored the game’s opening goal for the 9th straight game. Tyson McLean scored his fifth goal of the season, but his first as a Humbodlt Bronco in his fourth game with Humboldt to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Broncos stretched the lead to 2-0 early in the second with a powerplay goal from Reid Arnold and looked to be on their way to their third win over the Hawks. However, looks can be deceiving. The Hawks quickly turned the momentum and shape of the game from there on out. Second-period goals from Carson Erhardt, Max Johnson, and Zack Cox, the latter two on the powerplay, gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

The Hawks would add an insurance marker in the final frame courtesy of Jeremy Bisson’s first of the year. With two minutes left in the game, the Broncos pulled their goalie. Justin Jamer scored to get the Broncos within one, but the Hawks would add an empty netter 45 seconds later to pull the Hawks ahead for good 5-3.

The Broncos won’t have to wait long for revenge. They will host the Hawks on Saturday, November 30th for the home and home rematch.
