Broncos Sweep Home and Home Set with 4-1 Victory over Hounds

The Humboldt Broncos have won three in a row and sit in sole possession of first place in the SJHL.

The Broncos wrapped up a home and home set against the Notre Dame Hounds on Monday, November 23, picking up a 4-1 victory.

Humboldt came out flying in the opening frame, outshooting Notre Dame 19-5, while picking up goals from Logan Kurki (5) and Doug Scott (3) to take a 2-0 lead into the second period.

No goals were scored in the middle frame as both goalies held strong and the 2-0 lead carried over into the third.

In the third period, the Hounds got back within one with their lone powerplay goal in eight attempts, scored by Zach Whittaker to cut the lead to 2-1. The Broncos stifled any comeback attempt with another goal from their captain. Doug Scott, picking up his second goal of the game and fourth on the season to provide the 3-1 insurance marker. Then with under 10 minutes remaining, Chase Nameth scored his second goal of the year and the Broncos skated off with a 4-1 victory.

The Broncos went 2 for 4 on the powerplay, while successfully killing 7 of 8 penalties.

Dean McNabb picked up his third win on the season, stopping 28 of 29 shots faced.

With the win the Broncos improved to 5-1 on the season and sit in first place in the SJHL. They’ll be back in action on Friday, November 27, when they welcome in the Melville Millionaires
