BHP Weekend Recap: A Hard-Fought Parents Weekend & Family Day at the EPA

It was a full and memorable weekend in Humboldt as the Broncos hosted Parents Weekend and a Family Day matinee, welcoming families, billets, and fans to the Elgar Petersen Arena.

While the results on the ice didn’t go the way the Broncos had hoped, the weekend was filled with effort, energy, and incredible community support.

Friday: Heartbreak in Melfort

The Broncos kicked off the weekend in Melfort on Friday night in a game that came down to the final seconds.

After battling back to take a 2–1 lead, Humboldt was just two seconds away from securing the win before the Mustangs found a late equalizer and went on to claim a 3–2 overtime victory.

Brayden Skogstad got the Broncos on the board with a power play one-timer, while Logan Flint gave Humboldt the lead in the second period. Matt Bradley was outstanding in goal, turning aside 38 shots.

Despite the tough finish, the Broncos earned a point and showed resilience heading into Saturday’s rematch.

Saturday: Physical Battle on Parents Weekend

Back on home ice Saturday night, the Broncos welcomed parents and billets for a special night at the EPA.

Melfort jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period, and although the Broncos pushed hard to respond, they came up just short in a 2–1 loss.

Marik Mamic’s relentless effort created the Broncos’ lone goal, setting up Morgan Hackman in front to cut the deficit in the third period.

Humboldt showed strong pushback late, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Before the game, the organization took time to recognize the incredible support from parents and billets — a special moment highlighting the people behind the players.

Monday: Family Day Crowd Brings the Energy

The weekend wrapped up with a packed Family Day matinee against the Yorkton Terriers, with free admission bringing a great crowd to the EPA.

The Broncos fed off that energy early, jumping out to a 3–1 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Marik Mamic, Owen Chapman, and Morgan Hackman.

Avery Lowe restored a two-goal lead in the second, but Yorkton responded quickly, tying the game before taking control in the third period.

Despite the Broncos’ push, they fell 6–4 in an entertaining, high-scoring game.

More Than Just Hockey

Following Monday’s game, fans stuck around for one of the most anticipated events of the year — the annual Player & Staff Shootout.

In front of a great crowd, Associate Coach Carter Hansen claimed the title, with Oliver Phillips and Zach Bansley rounding out the top three.

The day wrapped up with fans hitting the ice for a Skate with the Broncos, closing out a fun and memorable Family Day.

Looking Ahead

While the Broncos came away from the weekend with just one point, there were plenty of positives — from strong individual performances to the unwavering support from families, billets, and Broncos Nation.

The team now turns its focus to the road as they look to bounce back this Friday in Yorkton.

Thank you to all of our parents, billets, sponsors, and fans for making the weekend so special.
