The Humboldt Broncos and Notre Dame Hounds squared off for the eight time of the dog and pony show on Wednesday. Once again, it was the pony that was best in show as the Broncos picked up their seventh win this season against their natural rival.
After a scoreless first period, Sam Marburg broke the deadlock with his seventh goal of the season off a nice centring pass by Reilly McKinnon that led him on a breakaway.
The Broncos continued to work their attack throughout the second frame, as Connor McGrath netted his 25th of the year to double the Broncos lead to 2-0, which they would take into the third period.
Humboldt has now outscored their opponents 82-35 in second periods over the course of the season.
The Hounds cut the lead in half midway through the third off a deflection from Antoine St. Onge. The goal ended Rayce Ramsay’s shutout streak at 133:12.
However, the comeback bid was short-lived. McGrath scored his second of the game to reunite the Broncos with their two-goal lead, which they would hold on to the rest of the way.
Ramsay picked up his 33rd win of the season, stopping 21 of 22, and the Broncos improved their overall record to 36-12-0-0.
Next up is a road game in Nipawin against the Hawks on Friday, February 11th.
