BHP Recap: Broncos Run out of Gas Through Travelling Weekend in Kindersley

Written by: Rory McGouran

The Humboldt Broncos travelled to the Parkland region in the east coast of Saskatchewan, defeating the Melville Millionaires on Friday, However, collectively seemed to run out of gas as they quickly transitioned 500km to the Inter Pipeline Arena in the west central part of the province, losing 4-2 to the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday.

The Broncos were unable to shake out their bus legs early enough as the Klippers opened up a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Cam Perlinger and Dayton Tailfeathers.

Both of Humboldt’s breakthroughs came off the stick of Gabriel Filion for his seventh and eighth goals of the season. Outside of these, the Broncos struggled to generate any sustained pressure or high-danger scoring opportunities with the Klippers locking down the house and utilizing a simple but effective, quick-breakout approach.

The Broncos were 3/3 on the penalty kill, and for the first time this season, were not granted a single powerplay opportunity throughout the 60 minutes.

Brayden Cunningham rounded out the scoring for the Klippers for his first multi-goal game of his SJHL career

Ty Matonovich was in net for the Broncos, facing 28 shots on the night and dropping his record to 1-4-1.

The Broncos will happily head home for a pair of games this upcoming weekend.

The annual Parents and Family weekend will take place on November 15th and 16th where the Broncos will host the Melville Millionaires and Nipawin Hawks, respectively. The weekend will also feature the annual Player/Staff Shootout Auction and Skills Competition, with the auction taking place on Friday followed by the shoutout and skills competition on Saturday.
