The Humboldt Broncos secured a 3-1 victory for their third win over the Melville Millionaires in a three week span to enlighten the over 140 family members, billet families and friends that attended the annual family weekend at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

The Broncos have squared off again the Millionaires in three of their last four outings and have so far been perfect in the season series.

Edouard Gauthier made his return from injury between the pipes for the green and gold for his first start since October 26th and was named the player of the game, stopping 37 of 38 Melville shots for his 6th victory of the season.

Tre Fouquette opened the scoring with his league leading 19th point from a defenseman, blasting a heavy slap shot over the blocker of Mill’s goalie, Nick Genette. Connor Miller fired a one-timer from a sharp angle off a Boris Kofman pass on the powerplay to double the Broncos lead, 2-0.

Melville scored their lone goal from Raiden Zacharias following a successful double minor penalty kill. However, the Broncos buttoned down the hatch, keeping the Mills at bay, and restoring their two-goal lead when Marik Mamic tipped home a Fouquette point shot for his sixth point in his last five games.

The powerplay was another driving factor for Humboldt scoring on two of seven attempts. While their PK held perfect shutting down all five shorthanded situations, this was the first time in the last seven games the Broncos had more powerplay opportunities than their opponent.

Family weekend consists of back to back home games and the Broncos will look to complete the weekend full with wins against the Nipawin Hawks tonight.
