Humboldt Broncos announce commitment of 05’ Defenseman Ben Costantino

The Humboldt Broncos are proud to announce that 2005-born defenseman, Ben Costantino has committed to the green and gold for the 2023-24 season.

Costantino, a native of St. Albert, AB, just finished his second full season with his hometown U18 AAA Raiders, where he led the team in defensive scoring with 27 points (11g-16a) in 31 games played, adding another 6 points in 10 playoff games. His 27 points were 6th in the league among blueliners.

“Ben is a big-bodied D-man who can contribute at both ends of the ice. We feel he possesses a lot of the skills we look for in a defender. He’s been on our radar for a good amount of time now. He was originally tied to a BCHL team, and we knew that if he was searching for an alternate route to keep all of his options available, then we wanted him in a Broncos’ jersey, and when he became available, we made that happen,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney.

Costantino, a 6’3, 212lbs, left shot defenseman, has already had a small taste of Jr. A hockey, having played 3 games with the AJHL’s Fort MacMurray Oil Barons as a 16-year-old in 2021-22. He added 5 additional games last season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Camrose Kodiaks. In total, Constantino has accumulated 3 points across his first 8 AJHL games.

Throughout minor hockey, he was named the League’s Top Defenseman in 2019-20, followed by a 2nd -Team All Star appearance in 2022-23.

The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt are proud to welcome Ben and his family to the organization and community.
