The Humboldt Broncos put on a show in front of their fans at their home opener.
After 563 days, waiting for a full crowd, the Broncos didn’t disappoint, defeating the Notre Dame Hounds 9-3 on Saturday night for their second straight win to open the season.
After killing a double-minor to open the game, it was the Hounds and Oliver Band who opened the scoring. After that, it was all Broncos.
9 straight goals, by 9 different goal scorers eventually turned the game into a rout as the crowd celebrated and tasted victory by the middle of the second period.
Matthew Perkins, Alec Saretzky, Lucas Ceccarelli, Nicksha Eric, Cody Hough, Kade Olsen, Braiden Koran, Logan Kurki, and Noah Barlage scored for the Broncos, which eventually built up a 9-1 lead. The Notre Dame Hounds scored two late powerplay goals by Jared Sych and Elliot Dutil in the third. However, by that point the game, it was well out of reach.
The Broncos are fresh with a litany of new faces this year, and five of them picked up their first career SJHL point. 2004 born forward Matthew Perkins finished with three points including his first career goal. 7 different Broncos finished with two or more points.
The Broncos now see their name at the top of the SJHL standings with a 2-0-0-0 record and a goal differential of +10.
The will look to keep the momentum rolling when the travel to the Battlefords to take on the North Stars on Friday ,October 1st.
