Broncos Strong Effort Falls Short vs. North Stars – Rory McGouran

Although the score would depict a failed test against the SJHL’s best in the Battlefords North Stats, the Humboldt Broncos put forth a strong game in the first meeting between the two teams, but in the end, fell 3-0.

The Broncos travelled to North Battleford to take on the 1st place North Stars on November 5th.

Just two minutes into the game, Humboldt’s goalie Michael Harroch reached back to make an unbelievable stick save, but was injured on the play, which resulted in Brendan Forman entering the game early in the first.

Both team’s goalies stood strong and the game was scoreless after the opening 20 minutes.

Head coach, Scott Barney was visually upset at the officiating throughout the match. Missed calls, questionable calls, and a signalled goal by the North Stars, which Brendan Forman looked to have covered, resulted in a 1-0 Battleford lead after 40 minutes.

In the third, a blatant missed interference call, with the play 100 feet away from the infraction, led to the Northstars second goal of the game. Battlefords would then add an empty netter late in the third period and take a 3-0 victory.

The Broncos put up 34 shots, all stopped by Parker Rey who completed the shutout.

With the win, the North Stats improve to a spectacular 20-1-0-0 record and the Humboldt Broncos fall to 11-8-1-1.

The Broncos are back in action on Friday, November 8th when they host the Nipawin Hawks.
