Broncos Acquire 05’ Defenseman Ryder Knutson from La Ronge Ice Wolves

The Humboldt Broncos are pleased to announce the acquisition of 2005-born defenseman Ryder Knutson from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for a 2nd round pick of the 2008 birthyear draft in 2024 along with future considerations.

Knutson, a native of Swift Current, was drafted by La Ronge with the 44th overall pick in 2020. He was an offensive phenom from the blue line this past season, leading the league in points by a defenseman, picking up 41 points (7g-34a) in 44 games with the U18 AAA Moose Jaw Warriors.

“Ryder was an elite level defenseman last season with Moose Jaw. We jumped at the opportunity to acquire him when he became available. He sees the ice very well, has a very high hockey IQ and instincts, and obviously the points he put up last season speak for themselves. We’re ecstatic that Ryder has decided to also sign with the broncos,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney.

Knutson racked up the accolades following the season as well. The right shot d-man was named a second-team All Star while also being awarded the Adam Herold Memorial Award, given to the league’s top defensive defenseman who exemplifies superior leadership both on the ice and in the dressing room.

Knutson also made his SJHL debut this past year playing one game for the Ice Wolves in 2023.

The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt are pleased to welcome Ryder and his family to the organization and community.
