The Battlefords North Stars ruined the return of their former head coach defeating the Broncos 8-6 Friday night.

Brayden Klimosko had coached the North Stars for 6 seasons, winning over 230 games and 2 championships in the process. Friday’s game was anything but a coach’s dream in a defensive lacking track meet between the two Nutiren Division clubs.

The Broncos did show some resilience through the night, trailing multiple times and repeatedly fighting back in the process.

The Broncos six goals came from three different goal-scorers. Jacob Strizzi, Gabriel Filion, and Josh Sale all ended the night with a pair of goals. For Strizzi, his 8 goals are now tied for the league-lead.

Both team’s goaltenders would like to forget about the night, although, the defensive structure in front of them didn’t provide much help.

Humboldt’s Edouard Gauthier allowed seven goals on 29 shots, while Battleford’s Matthew MacArthur stopped 27 of 33.

Powerplays were both effective. The Broncos were a perfect 3/3 while the North stars converted 2/4.

There is a chance for quick revenge as the Broncos will welcome the North Stars on Saturday at the EPA. Saturday’s game will culminate six games in nine days for the green and gold.
