Young guns lead Broncos past Wolves

The Broncos celebrated Elgar Petersen’s birthday routing the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1 Friday at home.

Tanner Brewster opened the scoring for the Wolves but Humboldt responded with six unanswered goals securing their 24th win of the year. The victory also pushed the green and gold past Notre Dame for second in their division.

Hometown rookie Jacob Leight tied the game in the first period with his third of the season from two other Humboldt born first year players, Morgan Gobeil and Reagan Poncelet. Jaxon Joseph picked up the game winner late in the first period.

Brayden Camrud notched his 12th of the campaign in the second frame, freshman forward Logan Hunter made the game 4-1 with his 16th tally, Joseph fired his second of the night and 22nd of the year past Jordan Frey spreading the margin to 5-1.

Former Wolf Derek Patter capped the scoring in the third period with his 10th goal from Leicht and Tyler Smith.

Frey allowed all six goals on 48 Humboldt shots, Jacob Wassermann turned aside 21 of 22 for the 17 year-old’s 14th win.

The Broncos will look to make it back-to-back wins when the Flin Flon Bombers visit the EPA Saturday, puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
