Van Blaricom, Martin Commit to Broncos in 2023/24

The Broncos’ top two draft picks in the 2022 SJHL Draft have committed to Humboldt for the 2023/24
season.
Forward Matthew Van Blaricom and defenseman Simon Martin, both 2006 born players who impressed
throughout the Broncos’ training camp and preseason this year, will don the green and gold next
season.
Van Blaricom was drafted 6 th overall in the recent SJHL Draft in June, while Martin was taken with the
Broncos’ subsequent first round pick, 11 th overall. Both prospects suited up for the Tisdale Trojans U18
AAA program for their rookie season last year. Van Blaricom finished with 36 points in 42 games. Martin
collected 12 points in his 42 games.
Speaking for the organization, and myself personally, we are elated to have both Matthew and Simon
commit to be a part of the Broncos’ future going forward,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney. They
both are not only exceptional hockey players, by exceptional students as well, which we feel will both
have many opportunities made available at the D1 level. We look forward to watching their progress
this year in Tisdale where they will be able to play big minutes an important part of their development.”
Van Blaricom and Marin are both getting set to begin their 2022/23 season with the Trojans.
The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt would like to congratulate Matthew and Simon on
their commitments.
