More kids in Humboldt will be able to partake in the sports they love thanks to Goals for KidSport.

On February 1st, 2020, at the Elgar Petersen Arena before faceoff between the Humboldt Broncos and the Battlefords North Stars Humboldt KidSport was presented with $2,287 from SaskEnergy. The money was raised through Goals for KidSport through the 2018-2019 season.

“That $2,000 check means seven or eight kids get to play sports in Humboldt and area, otherwise they would be sitting at home doing nothing,” said Mike Ulriksen, Chairman of the Humboldt KidSport Committee.

Goals for KidSport is an initiative that raises $20 for every home goal scored. The money goes toward the local KidSport Chapter. Last year, 83 kids received funding from KidSport which is up 55 kids from the year prior. This year Ulriksen expects to sponsor over 100 kids.

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a huge increase in the number of kids that need funding to participate in sports. We actually double our numbers from 2018-2019 and gave out $20,000 to get kids in the local area to play sports.”

Through its six seasons, Goals for KidSport has donated a total of $136,000 with $13,000 of that money going towards Humboldt KidSport.

“KidSport covers up to $750 for a year and it goes towards registration costs, equipment, and sometimes travel,” said Ulriksen.

For Saturday night’s Bronco game, the Broncos came away with 5-3 victory. That raised $100, plus $50 for each home goal from MNM Plumbing & Heating, totalling at $300 raised in one night.
