The Broncos offense came alive this weekend putting up six goals on back-to-back nights leading to a pair of victories including a 6-4 decision over Flin Flon Saturday.
Jaxon Joseph opened the scoring at the Elgar Petersen Arena scoring his 23rd goal of the season from Nick Shumlanski and Logan Schatz making it 1-0 just past the halfway point of the first frame. Schatz extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted short-handed marker five minutes later. The Broncos’ captain has 17 goals on the season.
Bryce Fiske picked up his fourth of the campaign 6:20 into the second period from Schatz and Conner Lukan giving the green and gold a 3-0 cushion. The Bombers clawed back in the second period getting goals from Rob Johnson and Chrystopher Collin cutting the lead to 3-2.
Graysen Cameron restored Humboldt’s two goal lead early in the third period with his fifth of the campaign from Jacob Leicht. The Bombers answered just 15 seconds later off the stick of Brandson Hein again cutting the Broncos’ lead to one. Kaleb Dahlgren would get the game winning goal just a couple minutes later. Dahlgren’s ninth was assisted by Fiske. Hein brought Flin Flon back within a goal but Humboldt wouldn’t allow the visitors to climb any closer, Lukan put the game away with his 12th of the year from Schatz and Stephen Wack just past the 12 minute mark while on the power-play.
Parker Tobin was victorious making 24 stops for the Broncos, Brenden Newton allowed all six Humboldt goals on 44 Bronco offerings.
Humboldt is now 25-15-3-2 on the year; their 55 points leave them second in their division and fifth overall, three points up on Notre Dame who fell 5-2 versus the Melfort Mustangs Saturday night in Wilcox.
The Broncos will host the Estevan Bruins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
