Mustangs and Broncos to battle for ‘Bourgault Cup’

AREA AGRICULTURE GIANT BOURGAULT INDUSTRIES JUMPS IN BETWEEN HIGHWAY 368 RIVALRY.

There’s a little bit of bragging rights on the line when the Broncos meet the Melfort Mustangs in the first round of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs.

St. Brieux based Bourgault Industries has jumped on board for a split sponsorship between the clubs and their upcoming playoff series. The winning club in the best-of-seven series will move onto the second round of the SJHL playoffs and claim the first ever Bourgault Cup. Broncos business manager Chris Beaudry said the passion Bourgault shows for the region is unheralded.

“Bourgault Industries is a great contributor to the Iives of many residents in the Humboldt and Melfort areas. Whether that is through providing jobs to individuals or helping out numerous groups with sponsorship the company always gives back,” he said.

The team that wins the series, the first between the two rivals since 2014 will take a trophy back to their home arena to showcase to their fans. Mustangs marketing manager Jaret Schneider said Bourgault and their success is important for both SJHL teams as well.

“I think this agreement is great for all three parties involved. To have such a key part of our area in Bourgault sponsoring a series between two close cities right in their back yard is great,” he said.

Games one and two are in Melfort at the Northern Lights Palace; games three and four will take place at the Elgar Petersen Arena on March 20 and 21. All face-offs are 7:30 p.m.
