The Humboldt Broncos are proud to announce another commitment to NCAA Div. I
16-year-old, Matthew Van Blaricom has announced his commitment to Michigan Tech and will become
a member of the Huskies following his tenure with the Humboldt Broncos.
Van Blaricom joined the Broncos midway through the season and has been one of the best rookies in
the SJHL since his full time arrival on November 26 th .
Van Blaricom combines elite offensive skill with a physical edge and grit to his game.
Throughout 24 games played this season, the Southy, SK native, has compiled 20 points (10 goals and 10
assists). He has 14 points in his last 14 games, and his 0.83 points-per-game clip ranks 1 st among all SJHL
“Definitely one of the most talented 16-year-olds we’ve had since my time here with the Broncos,” said
Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney. “We wasted no time picking him with our 1 st round pick back in June,
and he has done everything since then to be the best hockey player he can be. We’re extremely excited
for him to get this commitment. He’s had an immediate impact on our team and takes great pride in his
academics off the ice. We know the sky is a limit for Matthew and were looking forward to working on
his development so he’s ready when he gets to the next level. Michigan Tech is getting one heck of a
hockey player and human being,” Barney added.
Michigan Tech has won NCAA Div. I National Championships in 1962, 1965, and 1975. They currently
have a 21-8-4 record this season.
The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt would like to congratulate Matthew and his family on
the commitment to Michigan Tech.
