The Broncos were 20-minutes away from tying their Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) semi-final series and ensuring at least one more home playoff date versus Nipawin, but the Hawks crashed the party.

Humboldt blew a two-goal third period lead before Brandan Arnold scored 5:44 into the sixth period pushing the Broncos to the brink of elimination in the SJHL playoffs.

Game four started well for the green-and-gold Wednesday night, Logan Schatz opened the scoring just 64 seconds in with his third of the postseason from Jaxon Joseph and Nick Shumlanski. Lagan Casavant responded twice in the first period for Nipawin giving the visitors a 2-1 lead after one.

Jordan Simoneau beat Jacob Wassermann inside the first three minutes of the second frame giving the Hawks a 3-1 lead. The Broncos would fight back, thanks to the powerplay; Logan Boulet scored his second goal of the series at 6:20, Kaleb Dahlgren, Shumlanski, and Conner Lukan all replied for Humboldt building a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Gage Misskey made the score 5-4 on a seeing-eye wrist shot from the blueline at 4:13 of the third period, Arnold forced overtime with his eighth goal of the playoffs just prior to the halfway point of the third period.

Declan Hobbs made 57 saves in the victory for Nipawin, Wassermann allowed six goals on 59 Hawks’ chances.

The Broncos must win three straight if they hope to reach their first SJHL final since 2014, game five is Friday at the Centennial Arena in Nipawin on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
