The former Hound struck with just 2:04 left in the game giving the Broncos a 3-2 win over Notre Dame Tuesday at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
The 20 year-old Saskatoon product was acquired by Darcy Haugan in the off-season, Dahlgren has picked up three game winning goals versus Notre Dame. Dahlgren has 10 goals on the season, he said the latest tally was a huge one.
“It was awesome, the guys played great to comeback in the third and take two points away, it was awesome,” he said.
The first period went goalless and the Hounds would take a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals by Riley Perka and Marshall Wilton. The Broncos would respond in the third; Jaxcon Joseph fired his 27th goal of the year from Nick Shumlanski and Conner Lukan. Stephen Wack threw a seeing-eye wrist shot past Jack Ryan tying the game at 2-2. Shumlanski and Matthieu Gomercic set up Dahlgren for the game winner. Dahlgren said despite the two goal deficit the team kept the dressing room positive.
“In the room we were talking and saying we have what it takes to win. Those guys are right on our tails so that was a huge game,” Dahlgren said.
Parker Tobin continues his hot play in the Humboldt net making 21 saves for his sixth straight win. Ryan allowed three Bronco goals on 29 shots against.
The green and gold sit six points back of Melfort for fourth place overall and home ice advantage in the rivals expected first round playoff match-up. The Broncos travel to Nipawin Friday before hosting the Mustangs on Family Day Monday. Dahlgren said the club is looking forward to the weekend.
“We’re looking to catch Melfort, we play them coming up and that’s a massive game for us. We have Nipawin too so this will be a heavy schedule but a good test for us,” Dahlgren said.
Friday’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday’s face-off is 3 p.m.
