Comeback at the Cage falls short

THE BRONCOS SCORED TWICE LATE IN THE THIRD PERIOD BUT COULDN’T GET THE EQUALIZER IN NIPAWIN.

The Broncos dug a hole too deep Friday in Nipawin dropping a 4-3 decision to the Hawks who have now not lost in regulation in 30 games.

Nipawin took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from Jordan Simoneau and Jake Tremblay. Simoneau scored his second of the night and Brett Harasymuk made it 4-0 with four minutes remaining in the second period. Humboldt would get on the board in the middle frame; Jaxon Joseph rifled his 28th goal of the season past Declan Hobbs making the game 4-1 going to the third period.

The green and gold out-shot the Hawks 14-4 in the third period; Bryce Fiske slapped his fifth goal of the year past Hobbs with three minutes left to play. Conner Lukan also scored late on a power-play but the comeback fell short.

Logan Hunter added two assists in the loss.

Parker Tobin allowed four goals on 32 Nipawin shots, Hobbs kicked aside 34 of 37 Bronco opportunities.

Each club scored a pair of power-play goals, Humboldt had nine chances, the Broncos took four minor penalties.

Humboldt will try to rebound on Monday afternoon at the Elgar Petersen Arena versus the Melfort Mustangs. Face-off is 3 p.m. The team will hold a skate-with-the-Broncos following the game.
