The trading deadline is coming up on Saturday in the CJHL, but the Humboldt Broncos have already begun making moves.
The Broncos have dealt 20-year-old defenceman Oakley McIlwain to the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL.
In return, the Broncos received 18-year-old centreman Morgan Hackman and according to the Bobcats, the CJHL rights to 19-year-old defenceman Carson Olsen and 19-year-old defenceman Jack Birch.
McIlwain was acquired by the Broncos from the Grande Prairie Storm two years ago. After finishing off the 2023-24 season with 5 assists, McIlwain had 11 goals and 30 assists last year with the Broncos. This year he had 1 goal and 17 assists.
Hackman had 8 points in 29 games with the Bobcats this season. He spent time in the BCHL (Nanaimo) and WHL (Wenatchee) last season.
Olsen, a Warman product, is currently with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. He spent the 2023-24 season with Broncos Head Coach Brayden Klimosko in Battlefords. He would go on to spend the 2024-25 season in the BCHL before spending this season in the WHL with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Kamloops Blazers. This season, Olsen has a combined 10 points (2G-8A) in 37 games with both Lethbridge and Kamloops. He has committed to the UMass-Lowell.
Birch is an Edmonton product who has played 9 games this season with the Langley Riverman. He spent the 2 previous seasons in the AJHL with Lloydminster.
