Broncos Shutout for First Time This Season – 6-0 by Bruins

The Humboldt Broncos and Estevan Bruins tangled for the second time of the season on Thursday night.

Right form the drop of the puck, the Bruins proved to be the hungrier team, capitalizing with the game’s opening goal in just 11 seconds, and never looking back.

The Bruins continued to control the game as the first period continued. Goals from Logan Zeigler, Evan Forrest, Jagjeevan Phangura, and Kade Runke propelled the defending champs to a 4-0 lead.

The Broncos tightened their play for the remainder of the game; however, the damage was already done. The Bruins added two more powerplay goals, one in each period, from Zeigler and Alex Blanchard, while Cam Hrdlicka stopped all 31 shots faced for his second shutout of the season.

The Broncos had a bit of an illness bug run through the team forcing them to call two players up from U18 AAA. 16-year-old Connor Miller and 15-year-old Teigan Semchyshen both played their first career SJHL game on Thursday night.

Tristan Boileau started the game in net but was pulled in favour of Ben Motew after allowing 4 goals on 17 shots through the first period. Motew stopped 15 of 17 over 40 minutes of action.

The Broncos should have some reinforcements come back into the lineup when they continue their three games in three days stretch against the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday night.
