The Humboldt Broncos keep churning out victories.
In their sixth game in nine days, the Broncos battled back from two separate deficits to pick up a 5-4 overtime victory over the La Ronge Ice Wolves and remain undefeated on the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Wolves came out with a 2-0 lead in the second with goals from Rylan Silzer and Ethan Strik. Humboldt countered with two of their own to tie the game with goals from Maddox Amaral (3) and Carsten Kayter (1). La Ronge regained their second lead of the game when Walker Jerome scored to conclude the second frame.
Midway through the third frame Alec Saretzky (3) got just enough of a one-timer and fooled goaltender Dawson Smith with a bit of a changeup to tie the game 3-3. Just 1:05 later, Xavier Roy scored his first career SJHL goal to give the Broncos their first lead of the game.
The Bronco’s lead was short lived, however, as La Ronge broke in on a 2 on 1 and Flynn Maxcy beat Ben Motew to tie the game once again.
For the second time of the season, the Broncos needed overtime to decide a victor, and for the second straight game it was Tim Kim (2) who provided the game winning goal.
With the win, the Broncos improve to 7-0-0 on the season and move into a tie with the Battelfords Northstars who hold the exact same record.
The intense grind of the schedule will conclude for the Broncos on Sunday. The green and gold will play their seventh game in ten days, and third game in three days when they head to Flin Flon and take on the Bombers on Sunday. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the Bombers eliminated the Broncos from last years playoffs.
