The Broncos responded in a big way Saturday salvaging a home-and-home weekend series with the Notre Dame Hounds.

Logan Hunter and Jaxon Joseph led the way each scoring once and adding an assist in a 4-2 Humboldt victory to split the back to back contests.

Joseph opened the scoring in the first notching his 19th of the season unassisted. Tim Gould tied the contest a minute later with his third goal of the weekend. Brayden Camrud restored the Broncos’ one goal lead with his 11th of the season before the first period expired. Joseph and Bryce Fiske earned the assists.

Connor Mylymok drew Notre Dame even near the halfway point of the second period at 2-2. Hunter’s 13th of his rookie campaign came at the 15:37 mark from Logan Schatz and Nick Shumlanski. Xavier Labelle provided the insurance in the final minute of the middle stanza from Hunter and Derek Patter.

Parker Tobin stopped 21 shots in the Broncos’ net for his fourth win of the season. Jacob Standen allowed four goals on 32 Humboldt chances.

The victory brings Humboldt back to within a point of the Hounds for second place in their division. The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League schedule will now go on hiatus to allow the Showcase to take place in Regina Monday and Tuesday.

Humboldt returns to action Saturday in Melfort.
