Broncos Acquire Defenseman Damon Byers

The Humboldt Broncos have added some veteran depth and winning experience to their blueline.

2002 born defenseman, Damon Byers had been acquired in a trade from the Everest Cote-Du-Sud of the QJAAA which completes a future consideration stemming from a prior trade in 2021.

Byers was a member of the 2022 SJHL Champion Estevan Bruins this past season. His rights were sent to Everest following the Centennial Cup, which were then shipped to the Humboldt Broncos. Byers never suited up for a game in the QJAAA.

Byers, an Edson, AB native, split the 2021/22 season between the Melfort Mustangs and the Estevan Bruins. He suited up for 15 games in Melfort, picking up 5 points (3g,2a) before playing 14 games with the Bruins throughout the regular season, adding 7 points (1g, 6a).

“It’s always great to add a player with a winning pedigree and mentality, and Damon has that after wining the championships this past year. We’re excited to have him on our blue line and look forward to him bringing his abilities and veteran leadership to our lineup,” said Head Coach and GM, Scott Barney.

Over the course of his junior career, Byers has accumulated 108 games played between time spent in the AJHL, NAHL, and SJHL.

The Broncos have just two returning defensemen from their 2021/22 roster.

The Broncos and the City of Humboldt would like to welcome Damon and his family to the organization and community.
