Broncos Acquire Defenceman Jason Walia from the Melfort Mustangs

The Humboldt Broncos are excited to announce the acquisition of 2007-born defenceman Jason Walia from the Melfort Mustangs in exchange for a player development fee (PDF).  Walia, a left-shot blueliner from Edmonton, Alberta, adds youthful energy, strong skating, and a developing two-way game to the Broncos’ defensive group.

Walia spent time with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons (AJHL) earlier this season before being moved to Melfort, and now finds his next opportunity in Humboldt. His brief AJHL stint included 3 assists in 7 games, along with 23 PIM, showcasing both his playmaking instincts and willingness to engage.

A Strong Addition at the Right Time

The Broncos continue to navigate injuries and a heavy schedule, and Walia’s addition brings depth and stability to the back end. At just 18 years old, he arrives with room to develop, while already showing mature decision-making and confidence with the puck.

“Jason is a puck-moving defenceman with a full year of Junior A experience already under his belt. With the injuries we’re dealing with on the back end right now, he’s a very welcomed addition to our group.”
Head Coach, Brayden Klimosko

Looking Ahead

Walia joins a Humboldt roster that prides itself on work ethic, identity, and steady development. With his skillset and age, he becomes another key piece in a season where internal growth and depth have been crucial.

The Broncos welcome Jason Walia and his family to Broncos Nation and look forward to seeing him in green and gold at the EPA.
