Braiden Koran Commits to Ontario Tech University (U Sports)

The third Humboldt Broncos’ commitment of the 2021/22 season has found his post-secondary home.

Third year forward and Assistant Captain, Braiden Koran has announced he has committed to Ontario Tech University and will become a member of the Ridgebacks for the 2022/23 season.

“I’m super excited to continue my hockey career at the highest level of college hockey Canada has to offer, and also get started on my education for my future career,” said Koran. “It’s always been a dream of mine to continue my hockey career while getting the best education possible.”

Koran is currently in his third season with the Broncos, the second being a COVID shortened campaign.

After making the jump to the Broncos from Junior-B hockey in British Columbia, Koran put up 35 points (13g, 22a) in 54 games in his rookie season in 2019/20.

Coming back in 2021/22, after having his sophomore season basically wiped due to the pandemic’s shutdown, he has set new career highs in goals, assists, and points in his final year with the green and gold.

Koran, through 46 games this season, is a point-per-game player with 46 points (21g, 25a) and sits 10th in both goals and points among all skaters in the SJHL.

“Braiden has been a leader since coming to Humboldt,” said Head Coach and GM scott Barney. “One of the hardest hitters I have ever seen in my time in the SJHL. He’s also one of the hardest guys to play against in the league due to his work ethic and 200-foot game. He’s a guy that can create offensively, top-ten in scoring, and you add on his ability and awareness without the puck, you have a player that every coach wants on his team.”

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks complete in U Sports’ Ontario University Athletics Conference, and are based out of Oshawa, Ontario.

“I have enjoyed every moment that I have been in Humboldt. The organization is second to none,” said Koran. “From the games to practice, to team workouts and bonding activities, everyone I have met in Humboldt has helped make my experience top tier. It’s nice to get rewarded from all the hard work that was put in on and off the ice.”

The Broncos would like to extend their congratulations to Braiden and his family for this accomplishment.
