BHP Recap: Six-goal surge powers Broncos to victory over La Ronge

For the second straight game the Humboldt Broncos lit up the scoreboard six times at the Elgar Petersen Arena as they defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 6-1 on Friday night.

Connor Miller (2G-1A) and Jacob Strizzi (1G-2A) led the Broncos scoring charge in the win.

Following a scoreless first period, La Ronge opened the scoring 23 seconds into the second period.

Teigan Semchyshen provided a quick response for the green and gold 1:12 later as his point shot found the back of the net, to even the game at 1-1.

Strizzi gave Humboldt the lead just 1:10 later with his SJHL leading 14th goal of the season.

The Broncos power play added to the lead with Ryder Knutson deflecting Strizzi’s shot, extending the lead to 3-1.

Miller scored in his first game after a two-game absence, following up a rebound opportunity to extend the lead further.

Brayden Skogstad collected a highlight-reel assist for the second straight game, this time finding Tyce Penrod in front, who buried his second goal of the year, as the Broncos capped off a five-goal second period.

Miller would finish scoring in the third, pouncing on a loose rebound for his second of the game.

Charlie Tritt earned the win with 24 saves.

The Broncos power play was 2 for 4 while they killed off both of La Ronge’s power play attempts.

Next action for Humboldt is Tuesday night as they meet the Kindersley Klippers at the EPA.
