The Humboldt Broncos earned three points from a weekend home-and-home series with the Melfort Mustangs but missed out on a possible fourth after a 3–2 overtime loss Saturday night at Elgar Petersen Arena.
A late lead evaporated when the Mustangs scored a third-period power-play goal to force overtime. Kaleb Binner netted the overtime winner for Melfort in the extra frame.
Humboldt opened the scoring as Owen Chapman squeezed home his third goal of the season, giving the green and gold a 1–0 lead after the opening 20 minutes. Logan Peskett tied the game in the second period, firing a rocket off the faceoff in the Broncos’ end.
The Broncos regained the lead late in the second period when Logan Flint scored with 25 seconds remaining, finishing a setup from Oliver Phillips and Kayson Christian.
After Humboldt rallied to defeat the Mustangs earlier in the weekend, it was Melfort that completed the comeback on Saturday.
Brady Holtvogt made 36 saves for the Broncos.
Humboldt went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Mustangs finished 1-for-3.
The Broncos have two games remaining before the Christmas break. They will play their final road game before the holidays on Tuesday in Battlefords against the North Stars.
The green and gold close out their 2025 schedule on Friday at home against the Warman Wolverines.
