Freebie Family Day brought the largest crowd of the season to the Elgar Petersen Arena on Monday, February 17, and they were treated to a thriller that unfortunately ended in a Broncos 5-4 shootout loss to the Yorkton Terriers.

Thanks to a handful of sponsors, the Broncos’ yearly tradition of opening the EPA doors to free admission on the Family Day holiday was once again an overwhelming success with much of the building packed with green and gold Bronco’ faithful.

Throughout the 60 minutes, the Broncos pulled ahead by two goals twice but were matched by the Terriers with alternating multi-goal efforts.

Rylan Hue, Maddox Amaral, Boris Kofman and Maric Mamic found the back of the net for the Broncos while Tylin Henrikson, David Coyle, and two goals from Jaron Desnoyers countered for the Terriers.

The Broncos were doubled in powerplay opportunities against, as well as the conversions on them, with Yorkton successful on 2/6 and the Broncos converting 1/3 on the powerplay.

Overtime was thrilling for the fanbase in attendance but ultimately provided no victor.

In the shootout Jacob Strizzi was the lone Bronco to beat netminder Ethan Farrow. His effort was echoed by Coyle and the victory was then secured for the Terriers by their fourth shooter, Carter Briltz.

The Broncos single point wasn’t enough to leapfrog the Melville Millionaires who are currently in 5th place in the SJHL standings. The Broncos sit one point behind the Millionaires with a 24-19-2-2 record and 52 points.

Another thrilling weekend is on the forefront of the schedule with the Broncos set for a home and home series against the 1st place Melfort Mustangs on February 21st in Melfort and 22nd in Humboldt.
