The Humboldt Broncos scored just 9 second into the game, and then held on for a tight 2-1 win over the Melville Millionaires on Saturday night.

A picture-perfect start from the opening faceoff led to the Broncos 1-0 lead when Jacob Boucher stripped a puck in the offensive zone and fed Lucas Ceccarelli who scored his 4th goal of the season.

The Broncos continued to pressure the Mills, even while shorthanded. Another turnover on the penalty kill led to Ben Kotylak’s 8th of the year and a Broncos 2-0 lead.

Credit to the Millionaires following a tough start, they were able to lock up the defensive zone preventing the Broncos from building on their lead.

There was no scoring in the second period, but just two minutes into the third, Kayden Skulmoski picked up his first career SJHL goal for the Millionaires to cut the lead in half.

It was a very tense final ten minutes of the game as the Broncos tried to hold on to a one-goal lead. Tristan Boileau made several key saves, with his defenseman also putting their body on the line and blocking shots, leading to the Broncos 2-1 victory.

Boileau stopped 32 of 33 shots and was named the player of the game.

The win improved the Broncos’ record to 10-1-0 on the season.

The wont play until the following weekend when they travel to Kindersley to meet the Klippers on Friday, October 21st.
