The Broncos emerged victorious in the seventh meeting of the season with the Notre Dame Hounds on Thursday, securing a 5-3 win and extending their impressive point streak to five games.
Humboldt, who continues to elevate their game throughout this stretch, built a 3-0 lead through the first and early second periods. Boros Kofman, Maric Mamic, and Jeter Korte provided the opening goals. All three of those Broncos have recently set new career highs for goals and points in a season.
Notre Dame, who just recently shocked the Yorkton Terriers with a four-goal third period comeback win, figured out a way to keep the game close, although, they were never able to close the gap completely from their initial three-goal deficit.
Marko Djordjevic, Evin Bossel and Hudson Kerr secured the goals for Notre Dame, while Djordjevic also had a scary moment being cut in the lower leg with a skate in the third period. He would not return to the game.
The Broncos insurance markers were attributed by Brayden Skogstad, who extended his personal point streak to five games, and Maric Mamic who found an empty netter to secure the 5-3 win. This was the third consecutive multi-goal game for Mamic who now is second on the team with 17 goals, five behind Jacob Strizzi.
Strizzi and Oakley McIlwain, along with Kofman and Mamic all finished with two points, while defensemen Liam Rodman picked up his first point as a Bronco since being acquired at the trade deadline.
Dazza Mitchel, another trade deadline acquisition, secured his 51st career SJHL victory in net, and also his first ever inside the Elgar Petersen Arena. Mitchell stopped 33 of 36 in the process.
The Broncos PK was perfect shutting down a pair of Notre Dame Hounds attempts. Meanwhile, for the second game this season, Humboldt did not receive a powerplay.
Humboldt will have eight days before their next game when they visit the Battlefords North Stars on January 31st. Before then, six Broncos will head to Winnipeg, MB for the annual SJHL/ MJHL Showcase.
Those six Broncos include Strizzi, Kofman and McIlwain, along with Tre Fouquette, Kye Benoche, and Connor Miller.
