Head Coach and General Manager

Scott Barney

Scott Barney is entering his 2nd season with the Broncos as Head Coach and General Manager. He was named interim Head Coach and General Manager in late December and compiled a 14-6-1 record in his first season the Broncos. He was rewarded with a 3 year contract to lead the Broncos into the future. Barney has also been named the Assistant Coach of Team Canada West at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge.

Previously Barney played 19 years of professional hockey making stops in 10 different countries including 27 games in the NHL. He brings a wealth of knowledge and credibility to our players as he looks to make a strong impact not only them but the community of Humboldt.

Barney has a wife Tara and Children Charlie 5 and Jack 2 who look forward to being part of the community of Humboldt.

“ My goal is to bring a Championship back to Humboldt with an entertaining product on the ice for the fans. In doing that also develop young men and have them ready to further their careers at the next level be it NCAA, CIS or WHL.”

Assistant Coach

Curtis Toneff

Curtis Toneff is in his first season with the Broncos and 6th season Coaching Junior Hockey. Prior to joining the Broncos Curt was the Head Coach & GM for the Nanaimo Buccaneers in the VIJHL for two seasons where his teams set the franchise record for most wins in a season in 2017-18. Curt was also named Coach of the Year in that first season.

His main goal coaching in the Junior B ranks was to move players on to the next level. Over the two seasons over a dozen players moved on to Junior A, WHL or college hockey. Prior to coaching his hometowns team, Curt was the Assistant GM and Assistant Coach with the Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL. Curt works closely with the teams Defence core and looks forward to calling Humboldt home this season and beyond.

Rhett Blackmur

In his second year coaching the Broncos, Rhett is familiar with the organization.   He first joined the club in the 2011-2012 season as a player, where he spent his full junior career as a Bronco, winning an SJHL and Anavet Cup Championship in his first season with the team.  Shortly after his playing career, he started coaching in the midget program in Humboldt where he became the head coach before joining the Broncos as an assistant coach.  Rhett never left the community of Humboldt after his playing days;  he still lives and works in Humboldt.

"It would be very hard to find a better place, better community, or better people than in the city of Humboldt to live, call home and to coach hockey."

Luke Strueby

Luke grew up a fan of the Broncos as he was born and raised on a farm by Marysburg, just north of Humboldt.  He attended school in Muenster and played the majority of his minor hockey in Muenster and Humboldt.

Luke then made the jump to junior hockey and played three years with the Broncos.  When his time with the Broncos concluded, he went on to attend Minot State University where he played ACHA Division 1 hockey with the Minot State Beavers and pursued a career in education.  He was named captain the last two years and led his team to the National Championship Tournament in his final year.

Luke then moved home and after a year of teaching, the Broncos hired him as the associate coach and marketing director.  The next year, he stepped down, but stayed on as a scout and was eventually named Head Scout.  After serving as the Head Scout for four years, he was promoted to Assistant General Manager and Director of Scouting at the start of the 2018/2019 season.

Luke has spent nearly 15 years in the Broncos organization in a wide variety of roles.  His experience with the Broncos, and knowledge of the league and Junior A hockey as a whole, continues to play an essential part of the success of the Broncos organization.

Luke currently teaches and resides in Wakaw with his wife Amanda and his two children, Blakely and Rhett.

Head Scout

Jamie Armitage

Jamie is entering his fourth year with the Broncos. He is the current Head Scout for the organization. Jamie resides in Cochrane, Alberta with his wife Jessica and children Rylen 10 and Fisher 7.

Over the past 18 years Jamie has been involved with scouting at all levels of the game and is very influential and a key member of the Broncos Organization.

Jamie’s playing career included stops in the QMJHL, MHL and ACAC.

Office Manager

Amanda Brochu

Amanda has been with the Broncos organization since July 2018.   Prior to joining the Broncos, she taught for 8 years at both Colonsay School and Humboldt Collegiate Institute.

Amanda completed her studies at the University of Saskatchewan in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree and a Bachelor of Education degree.

Amanda, along with her husband Colin and their 3 children, Sean, Duke and Miller, moved from Colonsay to Humboldt in July 2016.   All three of the Brochu children have been, and remain, members of the Humboldt Minor Hockey Association as both players and referees.

At the beginning of the 2017-2018 season, their family decided to become a billet family for the Broncos organization.  They are in their 3rd season of billeting.

In the spring and summer, the Brochu family enjoys being an active part of the Humboldt Dodgers Minor Baseball organization.

The Legacy Program has donated several monetary awards locally already and are opening up these 2 applications of $5000 each to whoever, and from wherever to apply for.

3rd Annual Conexus Credit Union Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament Hosted by Jared Bednar and Brian Munz

With continued public health concerns as well as international travel and government restrictions due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, our organizing committee, in consultation with the City of Humboldt, Humboldt Broncos, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Hunter Brothers, has made the difficult decision to postpone the 3rd Annual Conexus Credit Union Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Jared Bednar and Brian Munz scheduled for August 2020.

The postponement of the Memorial Golf Tournament also includes the Hunter Brothers Concert and the 2020 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Hall of Fame Induction Banquet.

“This has been a difficult decision to come to over the last number of weeks.  In saying that, we believe our primary responsibility is the safety of the community, Bronco families, sponsors, volunteers and guests” said Tournament Host Brian Munz.

Moving forward, we are excited to announce the 2021 Conexus Credit Union Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament, featuring the Hunter Brothers Concert and SJHL Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place Friday, August 6th and Saturday, August 7th, 2021.

“Despite the disappointment of not being able to gather together this summer, we are already looking forward to the biggest event we have put together so far in August of 2021” said Tournament Host Jared Bednar.

Over the next few weeks, our organizing committee will be in touch with sponsors and those who have already registered.
