20 Year Wins Record: Humboldt’s Rayce Ramsay Sets Most Wins in Single Season in Two Decades

Photo Credit: Marla Possberg/ Amanda Brochu Over the last two decades of shots, saves, and most importantly, wins, no one has more in an SJHL single season than Humboldt Broncos’ Rayce Ramsay.
Ramsay picked up his 32nd victory of the season in a 7-0 shutout performance over the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday night. His milestone win marked the most in an SJHL single season since 2001/2002 when 32 wins was matched by Shaun Lee of the Hawks.
“I was a little surprised when I first found out about it,” said Ramsay. Honestly, I think its more of a testament to how well we have come together and competed as a team so far this year. We work hard in practice and the boys come to win every single night. Our goal remains to be at the top of the standings and win a championship, and I think this is just a reflection of that work ethic from everyone.”
The team’s work ethic currently has them slotted just two points shy of first place in the SJHL. Ramsay’s dedication, specifically off the ice, has enabled him to stay sharp and fresh throughout one of the busiest SJHL seasons over that 20-year span as well. The veteran goaltender has played 41 of the Broncos 47 games this season. He leads the league in minutes played with 2433, a whopping 392 more than the second-place goaltender.
“It’s great to see Rayce with this accomplishment. He pushes himself and his teammates every day to be the best that you can be and it’s showing with the season he is having,” said Head Coach and GM Scott Barney. “To be able to reach that mark that hasn’t been done in 20 years is pretty remarkable.”
In addition to his workload, Ramsay has compiled a 2.19 GAA, and .925 SV%, both third among the league leaders, while playing 607 and 1,554 more minutes than the second and first place goalies, respectfully.
The milestone might not be the last for the Broncos goaltender. Humboldt has 11 games left this season, which leaves plenty of opportunity for Ramsay to continue to climb up the ranks of the all time single season win leaders in SJHL history.
